Hi, My name is Jill Rainville and I have been cooking and working with the SCD Diet for about 6.5 years now.  It all started with my nephew who at 18 mos. became ill after receiving the MMR Vaccine and subsequently getting the Rota Virus.  He had intermittent vomiting and diarrhea that we could not get under control, his health was deteriorating. 

In the meantime my son David was born.  He started with uncontrollable diarrhea at 3 mos. old.  My sister and I tried everything for my nephew and David. 

We tried GFCF (Gluten Free Casein Free) diet, supplements, pediatric nutritionists, several different formulas, Pediatric Gastric Enterologists, everything we could possibly do as mothers for our sick children.  Finally, Pam Ferro at Hopewell Associates introduced us to SCD (Specific Carbohydrate Diet).  I went on it because I was still nursing David at the time and my nephew went on it.  It saved their lives.  It was very stressful at first trying to figure out all the foods you could or couldn’t eat.  I can’t tell you how many batches of cookies, breads, & cakes we ruined trying to work with the almond flour. 

Fortunately my sister and I had each other and a very supportive mother who helped us cook and experiment with different recipes.  I love to bake, I love to try new things and see the look of excitement on David and my Nephews face when they try it.  As a working mother I know how stressful it is to have a child on this diet, especially when not everyone in the family agrees with what you are doing.  My goal is to help and support people who are taking on this endeavor and create a support system for all families.
